just bent rear axle on curb! Fixable? Posted by Henry Helfman [Email] (#787) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Henry Helfman) on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 23:24:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was tired going around a right hand bend at night that snuck up on me and whacked it with both my front and rear left wheels. It was a hard enough blow that the car bounced and I was surprised that I was still rolling.
I was not surprised however, that the car doesn't track straight and the steering wheel is off center now. The front end is definitely off now but what really worries me is the rear axle now has visual camber. Left rear wheel has positive-camber (top of wheel out) and right-rear wheel has negative camber. They look parallel but off.
From reading archived posts, this seems somewhat common and some people have been lucky enough to be able to repair theirs. Where should I look for bent components or is my situation only solved with swapping straight parts?
After 10 years of 9000's I have 2 at fault slip-ups within the past 4 months. I just pulled the engine/transmission out my rear wrecked 1995 car to be scrapped in 2 days. The hubs on the axle on that car look to still be straight, though the axle was shifted forward on one side.
