I took a group of Swedish PhDs and MDs out for a tour of some medical facilities, and that was their take of an American Saab owner 16yrs ago. At that time I think there was a lot of truth to Saab owners taking a more intellectual interest in their cars than the average American car buyer. May still be true today.
Ann Arbor Michigan has/or had an active Saab dealership and K&N automotive, three indys working full time on Saabs. Ann Arbor is also home to U of Mich, and a bunch of other 'intellectual/tech' types. I think they had at least 10X the quantity of Saabs per capita of Detroit's 'burbs or my town, Toledo. Probably 100X Toledo. Anyway enough Saabs to support 3 mechanics and a dealer service dept.
I'm into 30yrs of driving Saabs, and used to smoke a pipe and wear tweed with and without the patches. Now I wear blue jeans and fleece and like to fly fish and sail. Doesn't seem all that different to me....
