Oil pressure is about 10lbs, and the oil pump is showing wear but appears OK. There were no metal bits or sludge in the oil. His guess is that the engine is shot, and it would cost $4k or so to rebuild. Looking for a good used engine, but not having a lot of luck.
So Fred, the rod bearing sounds as good an explaination as any I've heard. I've got to say that at 185k, the engine was the last thing I expected to go. It has had good care over it's entire life. Wishing now that I had not had that clutch put in last year! Oh well....
