There are two pairs of hoses - each hose in and out of the heater core has a junction in the aquarium with another short section attaching to the heater core itself. The ones attaching to the engine block have a bend and need to come from Saab parts dealers like eeuroparts. I had a Kragen pull one down that his computer said would work, but I could see that it wouldn't. It was one size the whole length, when the hose I needed was larger where it attached to the block.
The hoses in the aquarium have a bend in them, but it's slight enough that I would think straight hose would be fine. They are less likely to deteriorate. I bought the full set of 4 from eeuroparts, and when I got in there, I thought long and hard whether it was worth the effort to replace the ones in the aquarium that looked fine. I decided that since I had the new ones in hand I would use them. In the process of trying to attach the new ones to the plastic tubes on the heater core, one of the tubes crumpled. Obviously it was time to replace the heater core anyway, and when I pulled it I could see where it had been leaking and corroding.
I think it was the right decision to do the hoses in the aquarium, even though it didn't feel like it when I broke the heater core.
