I admire your energy and ambition, but you’re setting yourself up for a lot of misery, IMO… simply because it’s not that hard/expensive to find the proper parts for your ’87.
I have a lot of parts for 2.0L 9000’s (and maybe even an entire car less transmission) that could be yours for the asking. I’m in WI… so, depending on your location, it might be quicker/easier to make a drive here and pick them up. Send me a message if I can help.
I can’t see any reasonable way one could justify an engine swap from a 91 Turbo to an 87 Non-Turbo. You’d be much further ahead to buy another $500-$700 ‘91 Turbo that needs a little work.
However, if you *must* go forward with it, you should consider using the Trionic 5.2 engine management system, which would be scavenged from a ‘93 9000.
