Consider this: When the 9000 Aero came out, it was faster than a Ferrari 512TR (Testa Rossa) and a Porsche 911T from 50-75 mph. It was in the very top-end of performance among it's contemporaries. It was hands-down more useful than BMW's M5 (the only other four-door/five-seater that matched the Aero's performance), and it had class-leading luxury appointments (Oh, those seats...) In a way, the hatch-back Panamera is like the new 9000 Aero.

As others have mentioned, it also falls flat. When I compare gas mileage alone, I'll take the 9000 Aero over the Panamera, not to mention the fact that the 9000 remains the more utilitarian of the two.

To those who would sooner rent a truck when they need the utility their 9000 offers... good for you. I'm not going to rent a truck on a weekly basis though; not even monthly. It's too much hassle. If I replaced my 9000 Aero with something that had me getting a truck (or planning to rent one), I'd go get something that actually handles better than a 9000... I'm thinking an e36 M3 would do the trick.

I guess we all have our own expectations of the cars we drive, which is great. Somehow, I don't see many of us racing to the Porsche dealer to trade our Aeros for the new Panamera.

Cheers,
~Peter
