Don't forget the 98CSE manual Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Fri, 2 Oct 2009 06:22:42 In Reply to: 9000 Aero Purchase - What should we look for?, Victoria G., Thu, 1 Oct 2009 16:45:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This last year for the 9000 came with the 225HP Aero engine (in manual transmission guise) and the Aero suspension - so you get Aero performance for CSE price!
A few things to look for based on my own experience with 9000's and from what I have read on the board.
- Make sure you have full boost. I don't think I have ever bought a 9k that came with full boost. With an Aero the boost needle should be going well into the red. If it isn't it could be as simple as a vacuum leak, or as expensive as a bad ECU and boost pressure control valve.
- Look for rust around the rear upper shock mounts if you are in the rust belt.
- The studs on the exhaust manifold are known to snap off and these are a bear to replace. I would check that each of these is tight.
- I would probably also check the age of the DI cassette, since these tend to die every few year (where "few" is more than 2 but less than 10). If previous owner has not replaced then it's easy to remove it, flip it over and look for the four digit code that shows month and year of manufacture.
Good luck!
