I tried sloshing around a weak muriatic acid solution with the tank out and it seemed to work somewhat. It worked well for me on a plugged toyota heater core. I also went after the deposits with a toothbrush. Disclaimer is I'm not enough of a chemist to be sure it's a good idea.
