There are bushings inside the alternator bracket (or is it the alternator itself? I forget.) that will move inward with the tightened bolt. With the bolt removed, the residual pressure they exert can make the alternator seem stuck. If you've got a stout pry bar, have a gentle-yet-firm go at prying the top of the alternator out of the bracket and it should hopefully start to move. Once you get it moving some rocking of the alternator back and forth should eventually get it free.
Removal of the alternator, once out of the bracket, can be a challenge. I think last time I did this job it was in a non-turbo, and if memory serves I removed the intake ducting (leaving the manifold home) and pulled it out the top. Don't quote me on that though, I might be thinking of the power steering pump.
