Update 2: head is back off -- cams turn freely? Posted by TODDMO [Email] (#493) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TODDMO) on Fri, 18 Jun 2010 16:30:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I pulled my head back off. I wanted to rule out piston/valve interference. Timing was correct. I checked the flatness of the head on the valve and cam side. With a straitedge, it appears flat. Here's what puzzles me: I can turn the cams by hand (one at a time) and I don't feel a point where the cams bind-up. I'm assuming the pressure of the cams tied together on one end by the chain is enough to bind them in the bearing journals. Does that sound reasonable? If I take the head back to the machinist and the cams turn freely, how do I prove there is a problem?
I want to get the car running and have found a used head. Is there anything else, beyond the cylinder head, that could cause the resistence I'm feeling.
