Yep that was my first thought also..but Posted by Rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rob) on Thu, 22 Jul 2010 19:09:33 In Reply to: misfire under load is likely a spark plug problem. nm, Simon S, Thu, 22 Jul 2010 11:47:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have put new correct plugs (gapped correctly)and put my spare ignition cassette in and the problem is still present. I have sorted the general idle problem thanks to the help of the guys on the thread (AIC issue) but found that this other problem remains. The best way I can describe it is that when it occurs it is not an erratic miss in the engine - as in not a spluttering type..eg fuel starvation. Rather, it is as though suddenly I'm a cylinder or two down. I can get the car to do it by putting my foot flat to the floor. In about 10 to 20 seconds the problem starts and gets worse to the point that most power is gone and the car can only limp along with what feels like only 2 cylinders knocking away still. If I back off on the throttle when I feel the issue first starting, it typically clears after 20 seconds or so of not being under load - and away I go again. The problem is more difficult if I am going uphill as obviously to back off on the throttle in such a situation means I can't get enough power thats needed to get up the hill, and I come to a stand still and must turn off the car - restart 30 secs or so later, and go again. The CEL comes on when the prob occurs, but does not give me any error code when I check for them. Tricky one!
