If it's not rusty...and normally aspirated. Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Thu, 11 Nov 2010 17:18:23 In Reply to: Well...., chuck s., Thu, 11 Nov 2010 13:26:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Then it sounds like the owner/mechanic just don't know how to spell D-I-C !!!
For $400, if ALL it needs is a DIC to run again (maybe ?) - AND if it is NOT a turbocharged rig, it could be a real steal.
IF, however, it IS turbocharged - it'll have the dreaded TCS/ETS and I would ONLY consider it a parts car unless someone here pipes up and delights us ALL finally with the ultimate secret of 100% lobotomizing the TCS on a '92/'93 car. (Then the ETS would be the one remaining worry...)
Several times there have been claims made here of being able to do away with, or bypass TCS 100%...but even when asked (begged ?) the posters have never elaborated. A real shame.
I, personally, have owned 2 TCS/ETS cars; and the 1st took the next, next owner YEARS to diagnose and fix before it was too rusty to keep; the second one I passed along BEFORE it became a problem, and the next owner of that one fed it money for years until I lost track of him...
Some folks have great luck with 'em; others just feed 'em $$$$ full-time.
But a '92 NON-turbo with no rust ? That'd be VERY cool to have and WAY easy to keep in good repair.
(A post-facelift car with the 2.3l engine-> DI-> and NO TCS/ETS...nice.)
Best Wishes.
