I, like you, started with a 9000. When I first got my 2000 Aero, I picked it apart and posted several times that my 9000 was a better car. This feeling is eroding. The 9-5 has been more trouble free than my 9000, and the little stuff that does go wrong is easy to deal with as a moderate DIYer.
I still own my 1994 9000 so this is not a case of "out of sight--out of mind" I like them both, but to take me into the future I will pick the 9-5. The only thing that I can say with conviction about the 9000 that is better is that the seats are SLIGHTLY more comfortable, the turn signal lever is more solid feeling and the overall appearance of the cabin is more austere. (which I like). Other than that, the 9-5 is quieter, smoother faster, and just as solid feeling. If you do get one, have the pan dropped before purchase to eliminate sludge worry. Mine was clean as a whistle.
Have fun either way. Mike
