5 flash CEL

My car is going into limp mode and giving a 5 flash code. IF I am very, very slow to let out the clutch and very gentle on the throttle I can drive the car. If I am on a slight hill or do anything to put the engine under load the car goes into Limp mode. If I restart the car LHM goes away and it idles smooth but a CEL light remains for throttle position sensor (5 flashes). I read a few posts about "swapping check valves" but Im not sure where the one "on the fender" is to try it.
Would a bad check valve cause limp mode and a 5 flash (TPS) CEL? I tried testing it by blowing through the wrong direction it and it seems as though some air is passing through. I can feel it on my finger if I blow hard (and get lightheaded :P)
If it is the throttle position sensor that has failed, would I need a whole new throttle body? I actually just got off the phone with a guy at East of Sweden and he said he had a good used TB and it would be around $500 for parts and labor to replace it and that would include diagnosis and calibration. I described the situation and he thinks thats what needs to happen.
