92 9kT auto (TCS) - Kickdown cable question

I have a '92 9000 turbo, automatic, that won't shift into drive. It shifts 1-2, and 2-3, but stays in 3rd. Once or twice, it shuddered for a second, trying to shift into drive, but it hung up. ONE TIME, did I make it to drive.
My question. On the firewall is a big servo that pulls the kickdown cable. The cable end is cobbed to this servo from a previous owners hackjob. I am wondering if the kickdown cable is extended too far, and the transmission thinks it is always "kicked down".
Can someone describe the position of the arm on that servo motor, like 9:00, 12:00, 3:00, and how much cable should be showing on the kickdown cable??
