Hey, I think that was my post! You can use any 2L Turbo 5-speed from late 1987 through 1990. Before that, there were some differences, like a second switch on the transmission end housing to disable the "Shift Up" light in 5th gear, and a different reverse gear design.
By coincdence, my 1990 was rear ended while it was parked 2 weeks ago and subsequently totaled by the drivers insurance company (Geico). Unfortunately, I live in Northern Virginia, near Washington, D.C., which is about a 7-8 hour drive from where you are.
The car is drivable, but the whole rear end sags and the rear doors don't fit right. It has 240K miles on it, but the transmission was replaced with a new unit at 80K, so that makes it 160K old. If you were interested in the car, you could have it for the salvage cost Geico quoted me ($300), but something would have to happen soon because my wife wants it off the street. Send me an email (click on my name in the posted line). I'll be traveling this weekend, but be back on Monday if you need more information.
