I've had a 9K for 7.5 years. Got it at 90K. It was very well maintained by the PO and has been very reliable and needed only normal maintenance and replacement of wear items. Best car I've ever owned. When I loaned it to my daughter last summer, we didn't think twice about taking off across the country in it--at 165K miles.
If the one you've found is as good as you say, just go for it.
The Scion is a nice little econobox, but if you have little kids I think they may be safer in a 9K. And the 9000 will hold a lot of the junk kids seem to travel with these days.
You WILL wind up spending money on repairs that you wouldn't spend with the Scion, simply because the Saab is an older car. But short of some massive failure these are pretty economical cars to own, especially if you do DIY.
