Different tire widths front/rear? What say you?

So, here's the back story. Don't buy NG900s. Their engines' sludge problems will kill them for you right after you buy brand new tires.
Which you will then switch to your mother's 98 9000 CSE, even though they are wider than spec (I forget now...245s?). The tire shop will happily perform their idea of an alignment and your mother won't tell you how horribly wrong the handling is. Flash forward a year, and the rears are in perfect shape, but both fronts are worn treadless at the outer edges.
So, no problem, you'll just toss those snows on steelies onto the car for the winter, and deal in the spring (after first having a competent Saab specialist fix the alignment before the snows are installed).
Now you face the question: do you ONLY replace the two destroyed tires? If so, which end gets the wider tires (since of course you'll buy the proper size this time)?
Or, do you replace all four and maybe stick the removed good tires on craigslist?
I'm thinking of replacing the two bad ones, putting the skinnier stock tires up front, and leaving the wider ones on the back. Am I tempting fate with this idea?
Have at it!
