This procedure is for anyone who would simply like to see better at night. Click the link at the bottom for pictures. There is no downside to this procedure. Your low beam enclosure will not melt. Your headlight wiring will not over heat. Your pictogram won't notice the change. Your fellow motorists, especially law enforcement, will not be annoyed. You will not cause a warp in the fabric of space and time. So just do it and see better and drive more safely and comfortably at night.

9005 MOD PROCEDURE
01. Buy two 9005 halogen bulbs, the cheapest brand in the store. If you must have white or blue headlights, then search for a 9006--->Xenon writeup.
02. Raise the hood and disconnect the electrical connectors from the existing 9006 bulbs. Turn the 9006 bulbs about 1/8 turn counterclockwise and remove them from the socket.
03. Remove the o-ring from a 9006 bulb and add it to the o-ring of a 9005 bulb. The diameter of the 9005 at the o-ring shoulder is smaller than the 9006, and this step produces a better seal.
04. Look in the base of the 9005 and you'll see two small plastic notches. The Department of Transportation required those notches to be there so that you cannot use a 9005 in the low beam socket. You, the rebel roadwarrior, will remove those evil notches and strike a blow for freedom and safety. Choose your weapon. Box cutters, Xacto knives, chisels, dykes, files and soldering irons have been used successfully. I use a box cutter with a fresh blade, and the mod takes a minute or two per bulb. Be careful not to touch the glass because the oil from your skin will cause a hot spot that shortens the bulb's life. If you touch the glass, then clean the glass with rubbing alcohol.
05. Insert your 9005 into the 9006 socket carefully, making sure all 3 retaining tabs are engaged as you turn the bulb clockwise about 1/8 turn to lock it into place. The top tab in the 9005 isn't the same as the top tab in the 9006, and some recommend modifying the tab with a dremel. I have found that this is not necessary.
06. Insert the electrical connector. You're done. The 9005 has the same filament position as the 9006, so there is no need to adjust the aim of the headlights.
