I ran my 97 9000 cs 5sp up to 150,000 miles with only minor ball joints, waterpump and fuel pump repairs. Switched out the stock cs suspension for the Genuine SAAB sport suspension and fitted the Aero 16 wheels early on and I loved that car.
Sold it and bought a clean, low mileage 2006 9-5 5 speed the week they announced SAAB's demise. It is a better riding car, better a/c and radio and so far reliable. It does not have the solid feel in construction that the 9000 had, you notice it when you close the doors. But overall I love it. It is a quick, comfortable car that handles well, you will enjoy it. Try to get one with the sport seats if you can, they were standard after 2007, I think.
I thought I would miss the hatch, but the big trunk and fold down rear seats work just as well for all but the biggest Depot runs.
