Hello Saab friends, have following extrange issue, with my 98 auto CSE (200K kms) temp gage sudendly jump from normal range to the red zone no low coolant indication (Check radiator),so I stop and checked under hood with engine running, to see or expecting a broken hose or similar, but to my surprice everithing seem fine all houses ok fan running, just the high temp. indicating 1/3 into the red. left it idling for about 10 minutes and temp gradually decended and whent back to normal range, as if nothing had happen¡¡ about 30 minutes later it did it again same issue temp started climing so I stop again and did the same thing, let it idle for a few minutes but this time it took longer for the temp gage to begin decending staid about 3/4 in the white for a long time, normal range in my is 1/2 in the white or a litle above, but never in 4 years had I seen it rise like that. Thought it might be wrong indication issue but engine coolant was above normal temp since coolant was showing in the tank cap. I read a litle on some threads about what could be the problem. I can certanly poitn to the thermostat unit starting to go.. but will like some advice before I disasemble. here is what done so far.

Check all/most posible leaks points ok
fan low and high speed ok.

Check this morning again and found I had to refill with about 2 liter of coolant that spill out of tank cap during the first event, ran it for about 1 hour to check above mentioned points, and evething checked ok, nothing out of the ordinary. so took it out for a for a ride making the engine work hard, and temp maintaind the same as always, once again as if nothing had happen, but wait as I was checking under the hood wih engine running... there it whent up again all of the suddent to 3/4 white, so I imediatelly whent to see what was going on.. I noticed tha the top radiator hose was not as hot as the big house coming out of the thermostat housing. There fore I isume the thermostat is telling me change-me..
Gents thanks for the chance for allowing me the oportunity to share into words what going on at this time with my 9000 maybe some else is having same issue or similar and for the folks that already figure out what is the problem and whant to share with us. Any advice reconfirmation/rejection of my analisis greatly apreciated like always.
Regards
Ganzo from Chile
