Ouch, that is tough. It's really a shame about the body damage on a rust free, good interior car, as a hit strong enough to buckle the quarter really isn't feasible to repair on an older car. If it wasn't for that, I'd definitely say fix it.
If the aesthetics of the body damage don't bother you, and you want to keep the car as something of a project car and do your own work on it, the trans and head gasket are very much feasible DIY jobs, and the costs aren't bad assuming you find a good used trans. Unfortunately, economically it probably still doesn't make sense with how inexpensive later model 9ks are these days. Still, those are two of the bigger jobs that come up on a 9k, so you could do them over 2-3 weekends and get a lot of life left out of the car for less than the cost of a newer one with unknown issues.
