Yup about the oil analysis.
I have 260k or so of samples taken at oil changes. Total of 19 samples.
I used Amsoil 10W40 and MAN filters, with a change interval of 10k or so. When the engine was "refreshed" at 424k, the shop changed out the main & rod bearings, piston rings (oil and compression) and de-carboned the head. The cylinders were honed to "break the glaze" and engine was reassembled. The bearings and rings were "standard" or factory spec size. At 424k the timing chain was the Trollhatten chain and was planning to roll-in a new chain around 500k.
AFA change interval per the analysis should be at 10k miles. I used Amsoil 10W40, but any good fully synthetic motor oil should be good for that interval. Please note I am not a fan of semi-synthetic or 0Wxx oils.
If you do sampling/analysis get at least three samples before settling on the change interval.
I should point out the engine involved in the tests got 300k in a little more than 4 years. I average 110k miles per year. I'm on my 3rd 9000 (all 2.3l) in 6-1/2 years doing that cumulative mileage or around 600k miles.
One last thought, I don't think a flush is necessary. You may want to short change interval the first two or three changes or 5k then settle into a 10k interval.
