There is a fluid level sensor in the bottom of the expansion tank, see picture, these typically don't fail. What does fail is the insulation on the two wires leading to this sensor; once the insulation erodes, the two wires touch each other and the "Check Radiator Light" is illuminated. Three cures:
1. Cut the wires, no more light on the dashboard - but no level warning either.
2. Buy a replacement, about $50 at Eeuroparts.
3. Remove and fix the old one: I repaired mine with heat shrink and silicone goo on the exposed wires, has been good for years.
