My advise is to use the socket on the tensioner pulley to compress the tensioner. Then use the tool to hold everything in place. A simple tool will work as long as it is steel and a bit thick approx 1/8" thicker is better. Two sets of hands would be nice but not absolutely necessary.
The reason I recommend the tool is so you do not have to rely on the internal stop in the tensioner. If you happen to let go of the pressure too quickly on the pulley the internal stop in the tensioner can easily give way and you will be out another $100 to get a new tensioner (learned that the hard way).
Good luck
