bit of stumbling worry

car(97) had a check engine light, car had been sitting for several days and had no issues whatsoever, there was nothing obvious for this, so I just pulled the bat terminal for 10 mins.. cel vanished.
Subsequently, after going 'downtown', first time the car had been used in days, It had a stumbling almost dying engine when shifting into rev during 'unparking' the thing.. then mysteriously righted it self and gave full boost when asked... very odd and very disconcerting.
Suspecting a trans issue Why do we always go to the worst case scenario, immediately ?
Ran the car thru the various shift point tests, trans seems to be working perfectly,
tires smoke nicely too ;-0
Maybe the di showing displeasure? dunno? but it was dealer new in 2004 and has covered approx 25k miles since, still a youngster imo.
Yes I have a spare, but it's older.
I will do the plugs (10 months old) and check connections, as it's been very wet here. Beyond that, it's a wait to see what happens next adventure.
Unless someone has an idea as what to fool with first ?
