I had to remove the new water pump twice due to O ring seals crimped or snapped. Yuck, what a job, but I learned some things to pass along this great site.
- work from top of motor and side of car
- remove pass. wheel and plastic cover (only remove the cover toward front of car
- replace serp. belt since you must remove it. Take a picture with your phone of the existing belt. You will need this later to route the new belt
- make sure you have a 19mm wrench to reach the turbo cooler pipe going to pump (worst part as I had to remove oil filter and shield)
- replace copper washers on turbo coolant pipe (mine leaked after install)
- bribe friend with beer...this is a 2 man job
- take your time
- make sure the small hose toward serp. belt goes in smooth on the new pump (mine didn't line up perfect and leaked from breaking the O ring seal in half)
- when installing the new pump...start the top AND bottom bolts which hold the pump to the block. There are 3. Work the upper some and then tighten the lower bolt so the pump goes in straight (this caused my other leak)
- use Vaseline to lube the O rings...this helps sealing
- since you removed the oil filter, changing the oil is wise
- good luck as there is not much room to work
