About to give it up! Posted by Kevin M [Email] (#1193) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Kevin M) on Mon, 12 Mar 2012 14:41:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, at 300082 miles I'm just about to give up on a 38 year love affair with various flavors of Saab stories. My 1990 9KT had the serpentine belt tensioner had a catastrophic failure this morning and in doing so, took out the CPS cable and left me stranded 5 miles from home. Noticed a slight growl when I left for the shop this morning and in a 20 mile trip it completely let go. The Scantech unit had about 50,000 miles on it.
I'll look into splicing the signal cable, but it is not encouraging. The only replacement new I've found is an insanely priced Standard part for about 500.00+
This little repair along with a 3 year/ 25,000 mile T25 that has a little spindle play and a significant combustion oil injection feature will cost about 500 bucks for a rebuild.
With the oil enrichment feature in place, it is hard to tell just how much blow by is occurring but the compression checks good and even on all cylinders. I've been sitting on a ring and bearing set for about 4 years now, so other than doing the job....
Headlamp relay is a little flaky- sometimes wants to stay energized even after the lamps are turned off.
Clockspring needs replacing.
ABS wheel sensors in the front are shot.
SRS needs a reset.
And the seats- well needless to say most of the stitching has departed the bottoms.
So, it kills me to even contemplate euthanizing the old girl. Even with all its quirks, it has still been the best car I've owned and it is(was) a pleasure to drive this morning.
SAAB- Not an addiction, but a disease.
All the best,
Kevin
