In thinking about it further, the switch on the C900 screwed into the large cast metal part at the base of the gear lever, part of the shift linkage mechanism, not the transmission per se. To get to it on the C900 required removing the plastic trim panel around the gear lever and the switch was on the driver's side of the cast metal part. I have not had to do this (yet) on my 9000, so I don't know where this switch is hiding, but I imagine that it's in a similar place.
