Idle issues: IAC or EVAP? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 14:28:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Car is a 1994 9000CS Turbo. While warming up to full temp, the engine idle speed will sometimes swing between 1400 and 1800 RPM after driving then coming to a stop; before doing this dance and once warmed up, the car idles consistently at about 850 RPM. I have already cleaned out the IAC valve several times with carburetor cleaner, but the problem persists - example: while using the drive-through ATM at the bank this morning (a four block drive), the idle started bouncing between 1400 and 1800. After a few more miles driven, this behavior stops.
I am not familiar with how the EVAP circuit works. Does this circuit only come into play during warm up? If something is disconnected, i.e. the hose to the carbon canister, will it let air into the intake causing this type of behavior?
