Hi,
My 96 9000 Aero automatic is giving me a "Check Engine" condition. Trouble is, I cannot pull the codes the normal way with the ignition switch and blinking lights. That method doesn't work, which I can only assume is because I am running MAPTUN Stage 5. MAPTUN just told me to take it to a shop and get them to read the codes. Unfortunately I am about a 3.5 hour drive and 1 hour ferry ride to a service shop to do this. I figure I'm somewhat handy enough to deal with replacing parts, as long as I know what is causing the error.
Besides taking it to a shop, is there a cheap, reliable OBDII reader to purchase?
As for the Check Engine light, here is what I have been able to determine:
When I pull the battery cable for 1/2 hour, this clears the warning.
When I start the car and travel from point A to point B, the light does not come on at any point in the first leg of the journey.
When I turn off the car for any length of time and then start it up again to travel from point B to point C, the light comes on immediately and stays on until I pull the battery cable again.
Is this any sort of hint?
I also swapped the PCV check valve with one from another 9000 Areo but it did the same thing. I'm not totally convinced it's not the problem as the other 9000 has not been running for 3 years.
The mods include the following:
• Stage 5 Maptun upgrade:
• Garrett GT28RS Turbo
• 3-bar Map sensor
• 650 cc injectors
• Upgraded Watergate & Intercooler
• Taliaferro JT 3" exhaust
• Taliaferro Race cat: 3" in/out
• Abbot Racing Head
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I have a long journey ahead to take it to a shop.
Many Thanks
Norm
