my 2001 9-5 did not have them, and when I got the 2003, I realized how great they are. Even with the auto-dimming rear view, you still get headlights in the face from the exterior mirrors, and that's WITH 20% tint on the windows. The dimming exterior mirrors makes that a non-issue, and they still look and function like new since 2003. As far as fitting them to a 9000, anything is possible but that would be a tough one. I've heard of fitting the auto-dimming rear view without too much difficulty, but I think getting some bluish anti-glare film for the exterior glass would help a lot. BMW does this on the non-dimming variants and it works pretty well.
