Take the car to a wide open parking lot, do some high speed doughnuts, i.e. circles in both directions. If only one of the front wheel bearings is bad, it should howl louder in one direction than the other. Since the outer wheel on a turn is the one that is being loaded harder, the louder noise level will help you determine the bad one. Example: if clockwise circles produce howling, the bad bearing is on the left.
