As I recall it was around 285,000 miles or so Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sun, 23 Dec 2012 12:02:17 In Reply to: At what mileage did your fuel pump die?, Bill Homer [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 23 Dec 2012 11:02:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I purchased a Walbro pump cartridge and installed it according to the excellent instructions at fixmysaab.com. I would highly recommend replacing the fuel pump on any older car if the age of the pump is unknown. (I also had to have my C900 towed when its fuel pump failed at a similar mileage.)
If you go this route you need to either reuse the original plastic fuel line or make sure you use submersible fuel hose. The pump cartridge came with a length of hose (presumably submersible, but not 100% sure) and some clamps, but I was able to re-use the original fuel line and secured it with a clamp.
Be very careful with the fuel lines going into the pump assembly up top. I found that using a lightly-clamped vise grip worked great to twist and pull them out. (Breaking one of these is an "oh sh*t!" moment.)
There is now a complete fuel pump assembly made by Proparts that is attractively priced ($90 at Eeuroparts). You can basically just drop it in and go, saving a lot of time and work, but the pump itself is of unknown manufacture and may be a Chinese knockoff.
