Hi Guys,
I have a 1996 9000 CS with some coolant leakage issues... From MA, and the temp has been around 35 degrees average throughout this debacle. Sorry for the message length just want to give you as much info as I can.
SO here what I HAVE done in the past few weeks. Replaced the radiator due to a broken inlet on the upper hose. Upper and lower radiator hose. Replaced the "Y" hose that goes from the air intake up to the valve cover breather nipple. All new clamps as well of course. After this was done the car was fine for about a week. I then noticed a leak in the heater core. SO I ordered that and for the time being I bypassed the HC. Again, the car ran good for a day or two then was running hot so with the advise of you guys here I replaced the thermostat.
Again, the car ran good, great in fact, until last night. I parked it and could smell coolant and lots of steam from the passenger side of the engine compartment. A lot of it from under the car not so much from around the hood. Temperature was normal at about 40% up the gauge. Could not locate the leak last night. Too dark and too much steam and wetness. The whole passenger side of the engine, engine compartment the belt etc. was wet with coolant.
Today, I go out and see a large amount of coolant had spilled out overnight. Under that passenger side. I got in there today for hours trying to locate the leak and I can not. No hoses seem to be compromised. I went back through everything I had done and nothing is leaking a drop. Also, this might be relevant, the system still seems to be fairly full. That kind of makes me think the lower hoses under there that are hard to get to seem fine. But your the pros.
Any ideas? Could I have a blown head gasket? Would that cause a major coolant leak? Catastrophic water pump failure (replaced last fall)?
Any ideas where to go from here?
Thanks guys
Jim M
