He saw me back out of a parking space in the center of town and followed me about 1/2 a mile. Turns on the blues.
Cop: "I'm pulling you over because you only have one back-up light."
Me: "It's a 1996 Saab 9000. It was made with only one back-up light."
Cop: Blank stare. Pause.
Cop: "Well...." Pause. "I still need to write it up as a stop. But you're not getting a ticket because the car was designed that way."
So I sit there while the nimrod fills in some lame form, while $40 of Chinese food cools off in the passenger footwell. I didn't bother to tell him about the two backup lights up front. It would be far too much for him to absorb.
The only time I sometimes miss a second back up light is going out my 150 foot curved drive way on a really dark and rainy night. But I use my rear fog in all kinds of bad weather. Keeps the tailgaters away in snow and heavy rain.
