I'll have to weigh a wheel and tire to know how much rotating weight I've dropped. The '98 Super Aero wheel weighs 2 pounds less than the 15x7 5 spoke Fondmetal wheel (the Super CS wheel) that it replaced. The tire weighs a pound less per Tire Rack, but I don't know how reliable their tire specs are. That's comparing a Continental 205/55-R16 to a Michelin 205/60-R15.
You've taken the correct path to 225 tires. Your 17" wheels probably have 7.5" rims which is the ideal width for a 225/45-17 tire.
