After further investigation I ruled out the crank sensor.....it was more than likely the Air Mass Meter and/or possibly the NTC (engine coolant temp sensor) causing the problem.
Swapped out the AMM for my spare one I had on the shelf and installed a new NTC sensor.
Drove home from work 2 days in a row - temp above 90 degrees in the afternoon and sitting in traffic. Made it home without the car acting up on me.
Guess I can confirm the AMM by putting the other one back in one day on the way home from work and see if the car stalls out on me again.
