Flex pipe backwards...a problem?

Hi all,
So last weekend I replaced the flex pipe in my Mom's 98 CSE (turbo of course) with a direct replacement -- the exact proper part -- but due to the fact I ran out of time I didn't have the opportunity to replace the two bad exhaust hangers.
So, take it to a mechanic and just have them install the hangers, I tell my parents. And they do so.
But, my Dad says, they "had to reinstall" the flex pipe because, they said, the flex section should always be toward the rear. Hmm, silly me, I installed it backwards, I think to myself.
Then I check the diagram. No, it is clear that I installed it correctly.
So here's the question: does it matter? Aside from the fact that I think they deliberately ripped my Dad off, is there any inherent risk to the system if the flex section is toward the rear?
I tend to think yes, there is, the system was not designed to flex at that point and there may be additional stress on the catalytic converter. But if everyone thinks it's okay, I'm happy to leave the matter be. I could see it both ways.
What say you all?
