Accessing seat back heater grid? Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Fri, 2 Aug 2013 10:55:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yes, it's August and like a fool I had to try turning on my seat heater...
I've repaired the grid on the seat bottom a number of times and it's no big deal - but this time the break is in the seat back, the bad news verified with an ohm meter. Looking over past posts on removing the seat covers the news is not very encouraging to say the least. Basically it appears that unless you're lucky enough to have an Aero with its zippered seat covers this is one nasty job.
However it occurs to me that it may not be necessary to remove the entire cover, chances are the break is near the bottom where you slide in and out of the seat. Are there any shortcuts for just exposing the lower part of the seat back heating grid?
Alternatively I'm thinking of bypassing the seat back and just running the bottom heater grid. I assume I'd need to put in about a 2-ohm power resistor to make up for the resistance of the back heating element.
Always another project...
