Sticky front calipers.

A couple months back the LF caliper was sticking just enough to be annoying. I could glide up to a stop and feel it stop the car with my foot off the brake. The wheel heated up a bit when driving and I lost a MPG or two. Also had some vibration at highway speeds.
I had a spare caliper and a rebuild kit and was gonna do a replacement but took the offending caliper off to see what was up. It was a reman that had been on there for 50K or so and it had the cheap chromed slide pins instead of the stainless ones used on OEM calipers. The pins were corroded and grungy in the area where they are exposed and the corrosion had extended into the area that is normally lubricated. And it stopped the caliper from moving properly on the pins.
I took the stainless ones out of the old spare caliper, cleaned them up on a wire wheel, put on some lube and reinstalled. All the grabbing and sticking was gone. An easy fix to an annoying problem.
The moral of the story is to reuse the stainless pins in your old calipers if you are putting on remans, unless the remans have stainless pins.
