Just need some advice on my problem.
1994 9000 CS NON-turbo. 146,000 miles. I have owned the car since 50,000 miles. I do not think the head has ever been off.
Three years ago I started to get a lot of white vapor, sweet smelling in the morning after having sat all night, with some oil getting in the coolant. I retorqued the head and the problem disappeared. The car has not been using oil or coolant. Coolant is clean.
In my ownership the car has never overheated and I am very good about maintenance and coolant changes.
In December we took the car on a 700 mile trip, all done in one day. The following morning when starting the car it put out a lot of blue smoke for about 20 seconds and then cleared.
It has been doing this every morning now. Does not seem to be using any coolant. Smoke is always light blue, no sweet smell I can detect. Oil level has dropped only a little in 2000 miles (about 1/4 inch off of the full mark on the dipstick). Car has to sit for quite a while to repeat the blue smoke.
I ran a compression test in the morning on a cold engine. I got 155 to 160 psi in all cylinders.
So I am thinking either a valve seal has gone bad on the trip we took, or the head gasket is leaking oil into the cylinders on shut down.
What do you guys think? Not really looking forward to doing a head gasket.
John
