That's generally the idea. You can jack from below rather than use the the engine brace. Once you stare at it it will make sense what to do.
I wasn't sure if you'd definitely established that the intermediate shaft had failed. The splines can strip out which would mean it would slip at either the transmission stub shaft end or the inner driver end. You should be able to tell without pulling it.
