On the orange control box, there are six (?) solder pads where the small circuit board is attached to the metal lugs that get plugged into the relay box and some thicker wire runners on the board. Reflowing only these pads should do the job.
Regarding the relay box getting hot, I have never checked this in my car. I will say however that it probably should not get that hot, and the heat is likely being generated by current flowing through a high resistance connection, i.e. dirty contacts on the relays. If you have the box open and can gently clean off the relay contacts, that might help. You may want to use something like electrical contact cleaner or some other solvent - do not sand off the plating on the contacts.
