I had this work done several years ago on my previous 9000. Sorry no pictures, but here's what was done:
1. Nuts securing top mounting of rear shock were removed and shock moved out of the way (bottom stayed attached).
2. Rusted part of rear fender liner sheetmetal was cut out.
3. Bracket that holds top of shock was rewelded - original weld was just a couple of spot welds, whick had come loose; repair was a longer, more secure weld.
4. New sheet metal fender liner was fabricated and spot welded into place.
5. Seam sealer applied to seam.
6. Primered, painted, undercoated.
7. Rear shock reinstalled.
The repair held up for several years and was still fine when I sold the car last year.
