I've had Bilstein HDs installed for about 6 years now, and am tired of having my teeth rattled out every time I drive on anything less than a perfectly smooth road. I want to go back to the stock ride quality, but given that the car is probably worth less than $500, I'm having a hard time swallowing the $500 or so price tag for OEM shocks. Would KYB or Monroe be a really bad idea? Price is less than half. I know they won't last as long, but I may not have the car 5 more years anyway. This would be on a '97 9k Aero.
