Yes, the '97 has a pressure switch in the bottom of the condenser. As I recall I installed a new switch as well. Basically the car needed a new condenser but the job quickly grew since I figured it was probably best not to retain a bunch of old parts on a car with 300K miles on it. When the job was done the evaporator was the only original component left in the AC system. (Though now it needs another condenser fan since the replacement from back then has disintegrated. Another project...)
