Given the age of these cars it probably would not be a bad idea to replace the compressor with a new one. I installed a new UAC brand compressor (#CO8052C) on my '97 CSE when I worked on my air conditioning back in 2013. It fit in place of the Sanden perfectly and it's been fine since then. (As I recall though, PAG-100 oil is specified for the UAC compressor versus PAG-46 for the original Sanden. I was flushing my system out so it was no problem using the recommended oil.)
