I have found that a "normal" lead-acid battery will die in about three years on the 9000s that I have owned - some a bit more, some a bit less. Due to their location, they are subject to a lot of heat, i.e. just behind the radiator and near the turbo/exhaust, and at the top of the engine bay. If your battery is approaching three years, it's time is probably up.
I have had much better longevity with AGM batteries, which last about five years under identical conditions. Of course they are more expensive, almost 5/3 proportionally.
