Check engine light lit up today on my '97 CSE... Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Tue, 8 Nov 2022 12:28:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
...so I hooked up my Tech2 and it came up with codes P0340 (Cam position sensor) and P0444 (Evap purge valve circuit open).
I thought these engines didn't have a cam position sensor? Searching the board here it looks like this may be related to the DIC? As mentioned below though there are no misfires detected. (I do have a brand new red DIC on hand if needed.)
First step was to check live data - didn't see anything suspicious. No misfires on any cylinder, long term fuel trim is 0.0%, ignition timing is rock steady at idle, and O2 sensor data looks good.
I also used the Tech2 to test the evap purge valve and it passes testing. A click under the hood is audible during the test so that circuit does not appear to be open.
This happened after I had to hit the brake hard when some [expletive deleted] pulled right out in front of me from a parking lot on a 50 mph highway, the CEL lit just about immediately. Maybe a temporary (hopefully) communications glitch? I guess I'll see over time if those codes come back.
The car has over 366,000 miles on it. There was no noticeable effect on engine performance.
